Atticus, a reputed education provider in the region has embarked on an expansion of their institutions in Dubai in view of the growth being seen in this Emirate. AWAJ has been fortunate to be associated with this renowned group and has been requested to develop a Kindergarten to accommodate FS-1, FS-2 & Year-1.

The overall development consists of two plots. The adjacent plot to the kindergarten is also owned by Atticus and will be developed to provide a ‘co-ed’ school.

The objective of this Kindergarten, was to help the development of mental, physical and social abilities of the children who would step out of their homes for the first time on the long journey of ‘Learning’. The school is designed to create a ‘safe, secured and welcoming’ environment. The large floor to floor height allows to amplify the interior space and allows the natural light penetrate deep into the classroom.

The program develops into twelve classrooms assigned to three groups of children, divided according to age. The kindergarten premises has the Indoor play area and the multipurpose hall placed adjacent to the central shaded common courtyard, ‘the heart’ of the school. These three spaces have inter-connectivity and can act as one space when needed. The other common functions that surround the Outdoor play area are, Music room and Library. The classrooms are placed on the outer periphery. All the classrooms are connected to open-air play spaces, which allows a permanent inside-outside relationship which is scientifically proven to be beneficial for child development.

The Kindergarten is designed to expose the child to various elements through the facade treatment, textures and activity walls in the corridors and dedicated shaded landscaped areas.

Challenges of restricted spaces & regulations for access to the premise have been dealt with effectively and the project on its own will stand-out within the locality it will serve.
